Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council.

Highlights from the meeting on 14th December, 2004

1.   Resurfacing of the M2 through Kingsdown.  Mrs S Buttle of Kingsdown took the opportunity of the ‘public speaking’ slot at the meeting to explain that she had been leading a campaign to persuade the Highways Agency and its contractor to resurface the stretch of the M2 motorway between Bredgar and Faversham  without delay.  The traffic noise was intolerable to local residents, and resurfacing with modern, ‘quiet’ material, would do much to alleviate the problem. Later in the meeting, the Parish Council agreed to write in support of the campaign.

2.   Parish Plan. The Parish Council’s application for funding had been successful: £750 had been awarded towards the preparation of a Plan.

3.   Planning.  The following planning applications were considered at Planning Committee meetings on the 16th and 29th November:

  • TC/04/0092.    Removal of elm and Lawsons cypress and lopping of cherry trees at Lyon House,Lynsted Lane.
  • SW/04/1432   Extension at Maple Cottage, Lynsted.
  • SW/04/1449   Side and rear extension, 6 London Road.

Applications considered at this Parish Council meeting:

  • SW/04/1407 Undergrounding of power lines, Stedlyn, Lynsted.
  • SW/04/1495 Porch at 2 Tickham Cottages, Tickham Lane.

Determinations by Swale Borough Council:

  • SW/04/1249 Conservatory at Bonds Cottages, Kingsdown. Approved.
  • SW/04/1201 Studio at Church Oast, Kingsdown. Approved.
  • SW/04/1152 Alterations and repair, Bumpit Farm, Bogle Rd. Approved.

4.   Orchard Group.  Access at Park Farm Community Cherry Orchard had been greatly improved with the installation of gates for the disabled, and a large gate for cars to enter. Steady progress was being made on the ‘focal point’ sculpture, involving hands-on carving by the children of Lynsted and Norton Primary School. A highly successful Halloween event had been held (see December News Letter). The first three-monthly report had been submitted to the funding body. Management of the Orchard project had been broadened to include representatives from Lynsted and Norton School, Fulston Manor School, Lynsted with Kingsdown Society, Kent Wildlife Trust and the Mid Kent Downs Project, as well as the Parish Council.

5.   Website.  The number of ‘visits’ to the Parish Council website increases steadily, but with some variation over time. There was an all-time high of 419 visits in the week of 1st to 7th November.

6.   Joint Playing Fields, Frognall Lane. Estimates were being obtained for  the repair of the leaking water main. The facilities were being assessed with respect to the evolving legislation on health and safety, and  disabled  access.

Full minutes, once adopted, are available for inspection at Teynham Library, and via the Clerk (by appointment, Ph 522 653). The next meetings of the Parish Council will be held on Tuesday 25th January at the Belle Friday Centre, and after that on Tuesday March 8th at the Community Room, Lynsted Church. Meetings start at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Parishioners may make a short statement at the start of the meeting.
