Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council.

Highlights from the meeting on 8th March.

1.   Resignation. It was with regret that the Council accepted the resignation of Cllr Trim. The Clerk would write a letter on behalf of the Council, thanking her for her substantial contribution.

2.   Kent Village of the Year Competition.  It was decided to enter Lynsted in the 2005 competition.  A working group (Clls. Bowling, Disney and Baxter) was formed to prepare an entry under the Environmental Action category. The group would strive to include  the environmental contributions of all groups and individuals in the village and its parish setting.

3.   Subsidiarity Grants. Funding had been agreed for a) the new tarmac pathway for Lynsted Church and b) a contribution towards protective bollards for the Jubilee Pump on London Road (with Teynham Parish Council). The remainder of this year’s grant was earmarked for continued work on footway provision in Lynsted Lane.

4. Planning. The following applications were discussed at a Planning Committee meeting on 14th February:

  • SW/05/0076.  Covered terrace at Medlar House, Lynsted.
  • SW/04/1574.  Replacement classroom at Lynsted and Norton School. Amended plans.

Determination by Swale Borough Council:

  • SW/04/1610,1495.Listed building consent for porch at Tickham Cottages.   Granted.
  • SW/04/1571.  New vehicle access at Yew Tree Villa, Lynsted Lane. Refused.

Determination by KCC.

  • SW/04/1574.  Provision of replacement classroom etc. at Lynsted and Norton School, including amended plans.  Allowed.

Correspondence had been received from parishioners asking for the Council’s position on a proposed new leisure/sports development at Norton Ash. The site was not in the parish. The Clerk undertook to obtain a set of application papers for examination at the next Planning meeting.

5.   Website.  Regarding parish groups wishing to publicise items, it was agreed, in principle, that other parish groups wishing to publicise items could do so from the Parish Council website.

6.   Joint Playing Fields. Some necessary tree felling would occur, when weather permits.

7.   Community Orchard.  The sculpture/seat was now in place. An Inauguration ceremony was organised for 28th February, but had to be postponed because of bad weather. A parish-wide competition was under way to chose a name for the sculpture. A risk assessment had been carried out in the Orchard, prior to applying for an Entertainments Licence.  Such a licence a was required if live music or dance was to be possible at Orchard events.

8.   Vandalism at the Parish Council’s bus shelter in Lynsted Lane.  A contractor had been employed to remove aluminium paint graffiti. This had not been very successful. Alternative action was being pursued by the Parish Council.

Full minutes, once signed and adopted, are available for inspection at Teynham Library, or, by appointment, via the Clerk (phone 522 653).

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Tuesday 19th April in the Belle Friday Centre, at 7.30pm.  The Annual Parish Meeting, followed immediately by the Annual General Meeting, will be held on Tuesday 7th June at the Lynsted Church Community Room, starting at 7pm.

R Baxter, Publicity Representative, Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council.
