Lynsted’s ‘Cherry Day’ immortalised in print.

Book Launch on Cherry Day 2006
Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council’s Park Farm Cherry Orchard Project Group laid on a special Cherry Day on July 16th 2005.  The aim was to celebrate the magnificent heritage of cherry growing in the area.  The fine old trees of the traditional orchard were laden with fruit, cherry expert Gavin Maclennan led guided tours of the orchard,  the band played, the barbecue sizzled, and happy visitors indulged in an frenzy of ‘picking their own’.

Cherry Cooking Award
A particular feature was the competition of dishes prepared from cherry-based recipes, with celebrity chef Michael Barry selecting the winners.  The event was such a resounding success that it was decided to turn the content of Gavin’s popular tours, and the recipes, into an attractive 56-page illustrated booklet: ‘Cherries: Cultivation in Kent and Selected Recipes’.  In a neat final touch, the booklet was available in time for Cherry Day, 2006!

Cherry Recipies and Cultivation BookThe Park Farm Cherry Orchard Project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Mr and Mrs P Neaves, orchard owners, are thanked for their enthusiastic cooperation.
