HALLOWE’EN IN THE COMMUNITY ORCHARD
On Sunday 31 October people from all over the parish, and many from Sittingbourne and Faversham, visited Park Farm Cherry Orchard for our Hallowe’en Event. This was the first official event we have held since receiving our grant from the Local Heritage Initiative. This grant enables the Parish Council to develop the orchard as a community resource.
The event began as we congregated around a huge bonfire in the middle of the orchard. Adults and children gathered, dressed as witches, devils and ghosts. The event was opened by our Parish Council Chairman, Tom English, who welcomed everyone and thanked Pip and Sue Neaves for their kind hospitality in allowing us the use of the Orchard.
We had children’s games with hallowe’en themes, a barbecue and a professional storyteller, Madeleine Grove (see below), who captivated adults and children alike with her wonderful stories.
As it grew dark, the area was lit by Chinese lanterns in the trees and the candles from all the carved pumpkins on display. Local singers and guitarists, Stephen Finlay and Ramsay Cowan, then played a very enjoyable range of music. We are very grateful to Stephen and Ramsay for helping make the occasion so successful. If anyone would like to book them for an event, they can be contacted on 01795 521256.
With around 30 wonderful carved pumpkins for the pumpkin competition, it was very difficult to select a winner but the judges decided to award first prize to Rosa Sullivan. The fancy dress competition was equally difficult to judge with so many wonderful costumes but Molly Timcke and James Haffenden were awarded joint winners.
