Lynsted’s ‘Village of the Year’ - HIGHLY COMMENDED - read more here!
We are now pleased to say that Lynsted’s entry in the Environmental Action category has been successful and received “Highly Commended”.   My thanks go to everyone involved in environmental work throughout the village - with thanks to John Disney for his support throughout the process and in putting together the
Application Form.        Bob Baxter.

Village of the Year judges swoop.

Two ‘Village of the Year 2005’ Competition judges, Mesdames Jean Christopherson and Ann Rowell, arrived in Lynsted Village on 17th May to do their ‘first round’ assessment.  As ‘contact person’ for the Parish Council entry, I met up with the ladies after they had lunched at the Black Lion. I took them on a tour devised to illustrate, on the ground, various aspects of our  entry in the Environmental Action section of the Competition. They seemed particularly impressed by our Community Orchard (which was looking idyllic in the timely sunshine) and the Community Room facilities in the church (– not to mention the grub at the Pub!) . They let me free only after an hour and a half of fairly keen interrogation!     I was able to take the opportunity to hand over further details on Information Technology, the other category for which the village has been entered, in this case by Nigel Heriz-Smith.

We understand that a second round may occur next month.  The final results will be announced later in the year.   Learn more from the sponsor’s (Calor) website.

The annual competition is organised by Action with Communities in Rural Kent, which used to be called the Kent Rural Community Council.  Long–term residents may recall that, years ago, Lynsted actually won the Best Kept Village competition, which was the forerunner of the current scheme.
